Wasatch Front 100

The route

The Wasatch Front 100 starts at 5 a.m. on the Friday after Labor Day at East Mountain Wilderness Park in Kaysville, Utah, and finishes at Soldier Hollow in Midway. It is a point-to-point traverse of the central Wasatch from north to south with about 24,000 ft of climbing and 23,300 ft of descent, between roughly 5,000 and 10,480 ft.

The first climb is the famous one: about 4,200 ft in the first 4.4 miles up to the Francis Peak ridge, through the scramble called Chinscraper. From there the course follows the crest past Sessions Ridge and City Creek Pass to Big Mountain, drops into Lambs Canyon, climbs over into Millcreek, passes Desolation Lake on the Wasatch Crest, drops to Brighton, then finishes over Catherine Pass, Pole Line Pass and Baker Pass before the long descent down Decker Canyon to the finish. The cutoff is 36 hours, 5 p.m. Saturday. It is one of the oldest hundreds in the country and part of the Grand Slam.

What the sculpture shows

The sculpture shows the whole Wasatch crest between the Salt Lake valley and the Park City side, with the ribbon riding the ridge. Millcreek and Big Cottonwood canyons cut across it, and Deer Creek Reservoir sits near the finish. Point-to-point, so one line. The climbs are steep enough that the ridges keep good relief even at 100 miles.
