The route
Run Rabbit Run starts and finishes at the base of Steamboat Ski Area in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in mid-September. The 100 is a loop of about 101.5 miles with roughly 20,400 ft of climbing, opening with the 3,500 ft climb straight up the ski hill to Mount Werner. From there it goes to Long Lake, drops the Fish Creek Falls trail into town to Olympian Hall (roughly the halfway point), loops Emerald Mountain above town, then climbs back over Buffalo Pass via Dry Lake, Billy's Rabbit Hole and Summit Lake to Long Lake and Mount Werner before the descent to the ski base. About 86 miles are trail and 8 are pavement.
The high point is about 10,560 ft on the Wyoming Trail. Tortoises start at 9 a.m. Friday with 36 hours; Hares, the elite field, start at 1 p.m. with 30 hours and run without pacers for one of the largest prize purses in US trail running. Several legs are run in both directions, so runners see the same aid stations more than once.
What the sculpture shows
Mount Werner and the Park Range make up most of the terrain, with Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley along the low edge. The course is a loop with legs that repeat, so parts of the ribbon overlap. Long Lake, the Fish Creek canyon, Buffalo Pass and Emerald Mountain above town stand out. At 100 miles, the peaks read as a range rather than as summits.

Is this the current Run Rabbit Run 100 course?
Yes, the current loop from the ski base. The race has adjusted sections over the years, especially around Emerald Mountain and the in-town legs. If you ran a different year, upload your own GPX in the Studio and the sculpture follows your file.
Does it show the Fish Creek Falls descent?
Yes. The drop from Long Lake down Fish Creek canyon into town is one of the steepest features on the piece. The course climbs back out a different way, over Buffalo Pass, so the descent and the return show as two separate lines meeting at Long Lake.
How do the repeated legs render?
A leg run twice shows as a single ribbon; the route does not thicken. The Long Lake to Mount Werner stretch is run in both directions, so the loop reads as one continuous line with the ski-hill leg shared by the start and the finish.
Which size works best?
The course covers a wide area with big vertical, so it rewards size. Medium shows the loop; Large and XL give Mount Werner, the Fish Creek canyon and Buffalo Pass enough relief to be recognizable at a glance.
